Rock n Roll

Modern Rock ReviewToday is the 2nd anniversary of the official launch of Modern Rock Review on 10/10/10. Two years ago, the site kicked off with a first-of-its-kind profile of The Badlees, which examined their career on the 20th anniversary of their own debut EP in 1990. Since that launch, the site went on to do extensive profiles on Rush, Mark Oliver Everett, Lenny Kucinski, and Coldplay, along with many more articles, album reviews, and blogs.

Today the website also announced J.D. Cook as the new Executive Editor.

Classic Rock ReviewClassic Rock Review started off as a specialized section of Modern Rock Review in 2011 but has become its own distinct website with a clear mission. The site’s primary purpose is to review significant, historic rock albums in a systematic way, by dedicating particular periods to focus on particular feature years in rock n roll. Right now the year being featured is 1987, which will continue to be covered through October 28th with the album of the year feature on U2’s The Joshua Tree. Starting in November, the site will review albums from 1972.

1987 Album Reviews
Hysteria by Def Leppard
In the Dark by Grateful Dead
A Momentary Lapse of Reason by Pink Floyd
Kick by INXS
Tango In the Night by Fleetwood Mac
Cloud Nine by George Harrison

A Nexus of Anniversaries

33 Dimensions Newsletter
July 13, 2012

NexusToday I celebrate a couple of anniversaries that are from different parts of my life, yet are strangely related. First, it was on this day 20 years ago that I quit smoking once and forever. It is an accomplishment that I am still very proud of, as I explain in greater detail in today’s blog at my personal website.

It is also a wedding anniversary of sorts for my wife Karyn and I. Now those of you who know us best may be confused right now, as you know our actually anniversary is in December. But we were married on a Friday the 13th (in December 1996) and have celebrated every Friday the 13th since as a quasi-anniversary and a nod to our bold decision to defy all convention and superstition (not only was it Friday the 13th, but we got married in Las Vegas). The irony here is that this second anniversary would not exist without the first, as Karyn (who I affectionately call an anti-smoking Nazi) has made it clear that it is highly unlikely we would have gotten together in the first place had I still been a smoker.

The bottom line is, in either of these case there was no guarantee of success. Still, I haven’t smoked in 20 years and will live out my days as a non-smoker, while Karyn and I have now spent 187 glorious months together and our bond is stronger than ever.

I guess there’s something to be said for making good choices.

Why Do I Need a Website?

Simply put, a website along with a solid social media strategy is the most cost-effective means of advertising. The Internet is revolutionizing entire markets, allowing all businesses, large or small, the same opportunity to market their products and services in an effective and appealing manner.

Compared with attracting new customers through traditional advertising or conventional marketing, a Website is amazingly low cost and the possibilities are endless. Search engines, referrals and the vast linking mechanics of the worldwide web provide volumes of “foot traffic” unimaginable in a “brick and mortar” storefront setting.

What if my business sells products I don’t think can be sold online?

If you have a business, you should have a website. Period. Even if you deal with products and services that can’t be sold directly online, you must have a presence so that customers can find you. More than 20 million shoppers are now online, and when they are not purchasing many of them are “window shopping”. Don’t have the shutters closed when they come looking for you.

That said, it’s not enough that you just have a website. You must have a professional-looking site if you want to be taken seriously. Since many consumers now search for information online prior to making a purchase at a brick-and-mortar store, your site may be the first chance you have at making a good impression on a potential buyer.

3rd Anniversary

33 Dimensions Newsletter
March 3, 2012

Leap of FaithThank You for 3 Great Years!

I remember how pleasantly surprised I was when I found that the domain name for “33Dimensions” was still available on the morning of March 3rd 2009. Partially due to the fact I was producing an album called Imaginary Lines 33, and partially due to the date itself, I had just thought up the name and thought it fit with all the diverse projects on which I was working. I had known for a while that I would eventually tie everything together into one clean “organization” based on website design, music production, and creative arts. But it wasn’t until that Tuesday morning three years ago when, as I was getting ready for work, I came up with this odd name which made so much sense to me that I immediately registered the .com, .org, ,net, and .info domains and started building this business.

However, starting a small business is no small task and finding that precise moment to take that “leap” from a full-time established job to a full-time brand new business owner is something that takes many calculations and re-calculations. When I started actively building this business in March 2009, I estimated that I could be ready to do it full time in about 6 months (in fact, my target date was 09/09/09). In reality, it took over two years of trial, error, and success, but that day did come last April.

One of the most rewarding things about running this business is being able to apply my experience to other small business owners who are getting started and are at the same place I was a short while ago. Working with small businesses, artists and entrepreneurs has been and will always be our primary mission at 33 Dimensions, even 30 years from today when we celebrate our 33rd anniversary.

Also, we will be holding a contest in which we’ll judge submitted reviews of Michael Jackson’s album Thriller. In addition to having their review published on multiple websites, the winner will receive a cash reward and publication in a future newsletter. Deadline for entry is March 31st.

If you or anyone you know is interested in any of these opportunities please email us at info@33dimensions.com and we will give you many more details.

Classic Rock ReviewAs we mentioned last time, Classic Rock Review has migrated to a new, permanent home at ClassicRockReview.com. Earlier this week, the site wrapped up its profile of the year of 1977 by featuring that year’s album of the year, The Stranger by Billy Joel and began its profile of the year 1982 with a review of Van Halen’s Diver Down yesterday (March 2nd).

Modern Rock ReviewYesterday was “Van Halen Day” on a couple of our sites as Modern Rock Review did a review of that band’s latest album, A Different Kind of Truth by author Blaise Greco III. The site is planning upcoming features on artists Harper and Foo Fighters.

Big Blue BullfrogBig Blue Bullfrog recently completed a countdown of The Top 10 Films of 2011 and will run a new four-part series called The Philosopher’s Stone starting next week. Also, the site’s editorial staff will officially endorse a candidate in the 2012 Presidential Election on Monday.

We will be making a lot of updates to The Badlees Website in preparation of what will be a very active 2012 for the band. Much more on this in the next newsletter.

DAMES of PAStarting Monday, DAMES of PA will count down their Top Five Albums of 2011 by Pennsylvania artists, with a new album revealed each day through Friday. During the following week of March 12th, the site will count down the Top Five Songs by Pennsylvania artists. These Top Five countdowns have been a March tradition for the site since its origin in 2009. However, this year’s countdown will be the last new material published on DAMES of PA, as its function of covering Pennsylvania-based music and events will be taken on by a brand new web site called Keystone Rock Review, which we plan on launching in April.

We strive for the growth and success of all our customers!
